STA or Respite

What is STA or Respite?

“Short Term Accommodation (STA) and assistance” is a broad term used to describe various types of short term accommodation supports which includes respite care.  Respite Care is support for the participant for a period of time to allow their carers and informal support network an opportunity to take a break from their caring responsibilities.

STA and Respite can be for an overnight stay up to and including 14 days at a time, to a maximum of 28 days per year.  Generally all basic expenses in a 24 hour period relating to the provision of care would be included.

This may be:

  • Short Term Accommodation in a suitable environment
  • Assistance with self-care or community access activities
  • Overnight Support
  • Food
  • Negotiated Activities
